Rosenborg Castle

Kongens Have, Copenhagen · Last verified Oct 2026

A Renaissance castle with no lift: every level is reached by stairs, and wheelchair users can only visit the ground level and the Treasury with a companion helping on the steps.

Rosenborg is a 400-year-old Renaissance castle with many stairs and narrow doorways, and its access limits are stated plainly by the people who run it. The castle has several levels, stairs are the only way between them, and there is no lift.

For wheelchair users this means the visit is restricted to the ground level and the Treasury, and only with a companion: steps lead to both, and the companion has to help on the way up and down. The entrance to the castle is 96 cm wide and the entrance to the basement 130 cm. A walking frame can be taken to every level, but only by someone able to carry it on the stairs.

Seats are provided in Christian V's Hall on the ground level and in the Knights' Hall on the top floor. A toilet with disability access is in the castle area. Pushchairs stay at the entrance. The castle is in Kongens Have, the King's Garden, 200 metres from Nørreport Station.

What the measurements mean

The main entrance has at least one step, so ask staff about an alternative route. The main door measures 96 cm, comfortable for most manual and powered wheelchairs. There is no dedicated accessible parking, so plan a drop-off instead.

There is an accessible toilet.

A companion or carer is admitted free. Assistance animals are welcome. Staff are trained to assist. Seating and rest points are available along the route. Booking ahead is advisable to secure accessible entry.
