Belvedere

Landstraße, Vienna · Last verified Oct 2026

Ground-level entry to the Upper Belvedere through heavy doors 102 cm wide, lifts to all areas and wheelchairs at every cloakroom; the garden path down to the Lower Belvedere is not barrier-free.

The Belvedere is three venues: the Upper Belvedere, the Lower Belvedere and Belvedere 21. At the Upper Belvedere, the main entrance is at ground level, through two single-leaf doors that are heavy and give a clear width of 102 cm. Disabled parking is beside that entrance, on Prinz-Eugen-Straße.

Inside, all areas are reached by lift, accessible toilets are provided and there is seating in the exhibition galleries. Wheelchairs are kept at all cloakrooms, and the shop and café are accessible to wheelchair users. Tickets are best bought at the group counter, which is the accessible one.

The Lower Belvedere, at Rennweg 6, has a ramp next to the main entrance in the courtyard. The gardens lie between the two palaces, and the path through them is not barrier-free. Belvedere 21, on Arsenalstraße, has automatic double swing doors at ground level, one designated parking space and a barrier-free sculpture garden.

For blind and partially sighted visitors, the Upper Belvedere has tactile stations with touchable replicas of works by Gustav Klimt, Egon Schiele, Master I.P. and Franz Xaver Messerschmidt, and an audio guide with detailed audio description. A video guide in Austrian and international sign language leads Deaf visitors through the Upper Belvedere.
